The Hereward Way
The Hereward Way is a long distance walking trail accessible from the cottage door. It spans Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire and Rutland and has a total distance of 110 miles - so we certainly don't expect you to complete it during your holiday! The stretch of the Hereward Way around the cottage is characterised by the huge skies, golden wheat fields and lush waterways of the fens. Read more about our local countryside here.
Ely Country Park
The walking trails around Ely Country Park take in the pretty parks and fields around Ely Marina, with frequent opportunities to view Ely's stunning cathedral. The riverside walk perfectly compliments a a day out in the city itself where you can stroll Ely's cobblestone streets, old fashioned building and historic attractions. You can read more about Ely here.
If woodland walks are more your thing we're a short drive away from Thetford Forest - the largest lowland pine forest in Britain. There's plenty of lovely trails across the 19,000 hectares of Thetford Forest to keep you occupied during your holiday! Also close to the cottage is Shouldham Warren, a hidden gem that's a favourite of ours for walking the dogs. Hawthorn Cottage is a dog friendly accomodation, check out our dog rules here.
